- Confirm Gas Safe registration on the day. Ask to see the engineer's Gas Safe ID card. The front shows their photo and licence number; the back shows exactly which gas appliances they are qualified for (natural gas boiler, LPG, commercial…). Cross-check the number on gassaferegister.co.uk if you want to be sure.
- Get the quote in writing. A quote should list the work, the parts, the labour and any call-out or diagnostic fee separately. Verbal-only quotes make it hard to compare and hard to challenge later.
- Ask about the warranty. New boilers typically come with a 5–12 year manufacturer warranty, valid only if the boiler is registered shortly after installation and serviced every year by a Gas Safe engineer. Keep the paperwork.
